Philippine Studies in New Zealand Finds at Home at AUT
The network is proud to announce that a Philippine Studies hub is now officially set up at the Auckland University of Technology (AUT) - an initiative supported by the Philippine Department of Foreign Affairs and sealed by the signing of the Donation Agreement by Philippine Ambassador to New Zealand H.E. Kira Christianne Azucena and AUT Vice Chancellor Professor Damon Salesa.
This important milestone comes a year after the network was launched and marks a significant step towards a stronger people-to-people partnership between New Zealand and the Philippines especially as the two countries approach its 60th anniversary of bilateral relations in 2026.
First of its kind in the country, the AUT Philippine Studies Research, Training and Engagement Hub is envisioned to be a university-based, cross-faculty, interdisciplinary and multi-project initiative uniquely rooted in the context of Aotearoa New Zealand’s past, present and future connections with the Philippines/Filipinos.
The network is honoured to partner with AUT, New Zealand's leading modern university and No. 1 university in the country for international outlook according to the 2025 Times Higher Education World University Rankings.
Committed to diversity and inclusion with a vision centred on enriching lives and creating a better world through technology, learning and discovery, AUT is the ideal home for this groundbreaking initiative
Together with AUT and the Philippine Embassy, the network will work hard to grow the hub's impact and promote inclusive research, NZ-PH academic connections and positive educational outcomes for the wider Filipino student community in New Zealand.
