Pag(m)ulat: Philippine Studies Series
The title, 'Pag(m)ulat' combines two Tagalog words:
'Pag-mulat' literally translates to awakening or opening of the eyes. It carries a metaphorical meaning of (re)gaining consciousness, enlightenment, or a new understanding;
'Pag-ulat' means to report, or to share. It implies the act of articulating, expressing and communicating information, knowledge(s) and experiences.
Designed to foster critical engagement, knowledge production, and community building, Pag(m)ulat represents a collective journey towards understanding the Philippines and the Filipino people and its dynamic relations with Aotearoa New Zealand while recognising the principles of Te Tiriti o Waitangi.
As a 'series,' Pag(m)ulat will be delivered quarterly in various formats such as through colloquia that feature interactive panel discussions on a wide range of topics related to Philippine studies. The diverse formats aim to create a dynamic and engaging environment that fosters critical thinking, knowledge sharing, and networking.
