Dialogo II: International Philippine Studies Conference 2027
Auckland University of Technology (AUT) Philippine Studies Hub and the Philippine Studies Network Aotearoa New Zealand invite proposals for individual and panel presentations for the 2027 International Philippine Studies Conference, entitled (Re)Imagining the Global Filipino: Roots, Knowledges, Communities and Collective Futures, scheduled to take place on 18–19 February 2027 at the AUT City Campus, Auckland, New Zealand.
This international gathering is the second iteration of Dialogo Philippine Studies Conference and the first to be held outside of the Philippines. Building upon discussions that foregrounded the global trajectory of Philippine Studies, this conference seeks to re-examine Philippine Studies not only as a global and interdisciplinary field but also as a critical framework for engaging with contemporary social, cultural, political and transnational issues. Pag(m)ulat: Telling Our Stories of Rice (21 March 2026)
This event explored Filipino stories of rice as a staple food across many cultures, particularly in Asia, where it is cultivated and distributed worldwide. It featured a storytelling session and hands-on activities for children and families. The event was facilitated by early childhood education teacher Erickson Maclid, with the support of the Ellen Melville Centre and Auckland Council as part of the 2026 World of Cultures Festival. Pag(m)ulat: Kwentong Aotearoa - Crossing Oceans, Creating Stories (19 February 2026)
This (5th) Pag(m)ulat featured a presentation and a conversation with Professor Roland Tolentino, multi-awarded author, writer, scholar and activist, whose research interests include Philippine literature, popular culture, cinema, and media. Centring Filipino stories grounded in Aotearoa New Zealand and the ways these stories are told, Hannah Barral and Marianne Infante have been invited to share their experiences crafting stories through different modalities, such as performance, social media, cultural research; to name a few. Filipino Diasporic Culture and Identity in
Aotearoa New Zealand (2 December 2025)
This roundtable explored how Filipino culture and identity are lived, negotiated, and expressed within Aotearoa New Zealand and across Filipino diasporic communities worldwide. The session brought together speakers and reactors who reflected on belonging, cultural practice, intergenerational shifts, and the broader dynamics of the Filipino diaspora.
